  • The Museum of Coastal Carolina is showing the environmental documentary film STRAWS by Linda Booker at 6 p.m. on July 17. Each day in the U.S., we use an astounding 500,000,000 plastic straws. With a colorful straw history animation sequence and segments narrated by Oscar winner Tim Robbins, STRAWS shows how individuals, groups, and businesses around the globe are attempting to reduce plastic straw usage through awareness, outreach, policy, and non-plastic alternatives.

In her film, Ms. Booker entertains, educates, and inspires action against this plastic pollution. In an interview published online, Ms. Booker noted that “Once I started researching the topic, I was embarrassed that it never occurred to me something as small as a plastic straw could be a huge contributor to plastic litter and what we now know is a threat to marine life”.

    Free for members. Non-member all-day admission: $9.50 Adults (13-61), $8.50 Seniors (62+), $7.50 Children (3-12), Free for age 2 & under
